Let's isolate a use of the team total in the Bears/Vikings game by showing a
situation where your opinion might not fit a traditional full game over/under,

Bears might score a lot of points against the Vikings beat up defense. So
you can bet the Bears, but as the Vikes offense has struggled, and the Bears D
dominates, you are hesitant to bet over 35½. A team total gives you the
option to bet an over/under on just the Bears. In this game the
Bears team total is 19 points. So instead of betting the game over 35½,
